Plump It Up: A Guide to Dermal Fillers for a Youthful Glow

Dermal Fillers are gel-like substances that are injected underneath the skin to help increase volume, smooth lines, soften creases, and enhance features. Dermal fillers can be made with different ingredients including Hyaluronic acid, Calcium Hydroxylapatite, Poly-L-Lactic acid, Polymethylmethacrylate, and autologous fat injections. At Skinnovative Solutions, we use Hyaluronic Acid fillers to help you achieve the goal you’re looking for.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance that helps keep skin plump and hydrated. Results of Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6-12 months. Most are infused with Lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during and after injections. Some examples of Hyaluronic acid fillers include Juvederm and Restylane products.

Prior to dermal filler injections, the desired area is typically numbed with a topical cream. Most fillers also contain Lidocaine which can help minimize discomfort. Some common side effects of dermal fillers include bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Some times you can also feel lumps following injection, which is normal. Other more serious complications can be infection or vascular occlusion. After the procedure, you should ice the area, but make sure to apply it gently. You can typically see results the same day. You should avoid physical activity 24-48 hours following injection. You should also avoid massaging the area as this can cause the product to move.
